How Search Works
What does search look for?
When someone types in the search box, the system looks for matches in several places. Here’s a simple summary:
Where it looks | Example | Notes |
---|---|---|
Product Code | 136583 | Exact match only |
Product Title | Black Floral Dress | Finds close matches too |
Product Description | "A beautiful floral dress" | Looks for all words |
Facets (filters) | Colour: Black | Looks for close matches |
If a customer makes a typo, the search will try to find the closest match (for example, “Blak Dress” will still find “Black Dress”).
When does a product show up in search?
For a product to appear in search results, it must:
- Be in stock
- Be available (not hidden or out of date)
- Not be excluded from search
Can I change how search works?
Yes! You can adjust search settings in the Search Rules page. For example, you can:
- Boost certain fields (like product title)
- Turn on/off fuzzy search (for typos)
- Exclude out-of-stock products
- Enable instant suggestions as users type
