Balance Factors

Learn how balance factors are used in Remarkable Commerce Manager to rank products by price, stock, sales, and more.

Balance factors are used to help rank products based on scores. These can relate to price, sales, stock, and more. Usually, a combination of balance factors is applied to a page to rank products according to different priorities (for example, high price and high stock).

How to manage balance factors

To see a walkthrough of how to manage balance factors, see the video below.

How to apply Balance Factors

Each balance factor is used to calculate a product's overall ranking score as follows:

  • Assign a score to each balance factor (from 0 to 100).
  • Multiply each score by its weighting.
  • Add all weighted scores together to get the product's overall score.
  • Rank products by their overall score (higher scores appear first).

Tip

The actual values do not need to add up to 100%. For example, four balance factors set to 25% each will have the same effect as four set to 100% each—the relative position remains the same, only the total score changes.

How to add a new balance factor?

Navigate to the merchandising module in Remarkable Commerce Manager.

Choose the Advanced section, then select Balance Factors.

Click the button to add a new balance factor.

Choose the Custom option for your new balance factor.

Enter a name and description for your balance factor.

Choose the Match field that the balance factor is looking in, then specify the value.

Select the operator (equal to, contains, greater than, or less than).

Click Save to add your new balance factor.

Example

To make a balance factor to rank socks at the top of an accessories page:

  • The Match field would be Merch Pages and the value would be #socks.
  • The operator would be contains (so it looks for the value "socks" on the merchandised page).
  • Apply the balance factor to the accessories page and set it to 100 – socks will show first.

Negative balance factors

We've added the ability to dampen certain balance factors so products can be pushed to the bottom instead of the top.
